This week has just been crazy!
Putting the final pieces together for the new D-League team has been a tremendous amount of work. Along with that we've had way to much drama with the I-League team with schedule changes and differences of opinions on what the captains feel is the way to go about getting things done.
Just so you guys know (teammates), we are all fighting hard behind the scenes to keep the hockey a load of fun!
So the weekend is here and we finally get to play some hockey.
Last weekend the I-League team had its best win yet, we defeated the Ice Rats...hmmmm...I wonder if it had anything to do with me not being able to play!
So this week we have another tough game and the D-League team will take the ice Sunday night in Grapevine for the first time as the Frisco Blackhawks! We are one roster spot short of having a full team, but I have no doubt that spot will get filled in the next few days.
So enough with the coordinator stuff...IT IS HOCKEY TIME!
I-League - This Saturday 6:00pm Stars Center
D-League - This Sunday 6:45pm Grapevine

New D League Team
What a busy week this is!
The Frisco Blackhawks start Session 3 this Saturday night @ 6:15pm, get your popcorn ready!
Also I'm excited to announce that the Frisco Blackawks will now also have a D-League team beginning play with the Metroplex Christian Hockey Association. Our first game will be November 2nd.
A few of the regular Blackhawks from the Stars Center will be playing, last year several of the team members played for the "Octipice" with the home ice being Stonebriar. Now the Octipice will adopt the name and colors of the Blackhawks.
So get ready for a busy and fun winter!

Hanging Out In The Net!
Well last Friday night was a "real first". I did attend two-drop in's prior to Friday night but they were "weak" to say the least. The first drop-in was a total failure as it seems my new goalie skates were way over-sharpened by our good friends at the Stars Center. I had them re-done and did manage to get the pads on for a brief yet tiresome workout mid last week.
So Friday night I felt was my first real experience between the pipes! I attended the Friday night I-League session over in Grapevine. The other Stars Center really need to take a look at what is going on over there.
Every friday night you can drop-in or pay for the entire 12 week session, the I-League runs from 9:00pm to 10:15pm....or until they need the ice. The cost is $20 but there are usually 3 or 4 coaches who will run drills and then run a simulated game. Wow was it awesome, I had 2 goalie coaches!
The next couple of weeks will be straight games, you guys really should attend this!
So back to me....it is all about me anyway!
So I slapped on my new RBK 8K pads and hit the ice, the first 30 minutes was pretty tough, it's not like I'm 25 anymore! Vinny spent most of the night shadowing me as he was the coach assigned to teach me the ropes. We worked on all kinds of stuff, in fact almost too much stuff!
He really helped with some basic technique as well as positioning, the cool thing is the positioning and "marks" he showed me will really help me as a "player" not just as a goalie.
Well the hardest part of being a goalie is not the 100 mph heaters....it is actually the motion of going into the butterfly and then having to get backup quickly. If you could only imagine adding about 30 lbs of gear and doing the squats for an hour and a half. I never thought of that in this quest to be a net minder.
Well more updates will come later, I can't attend this Friday night due to shooting a wedding....
You guys need to join me!

3rd Session - First Practice
Thanks for those that showed up for the 1st practice of the 3rd session.
Wow! Have we increased the talent on the roster and sub-list. It looks like our two full time roster members, Brett and Michael, will be a big help to the team.
Overall I was very pleased with the turnout for the practice. Next week look for us to spend quite a bit of time working on the break-out as well as puck possession in the offensive zone.
As a team I do think we can "skate" with just about any team on the ice. The one thing that did seem to stand out is we are a really bad team when it comes to making passes and catching passes!
I'd really encourage everyone, myself included to get a stick in your hand and really work on the eye hand coordination! You can get a tennis ball and just push it around your garage floor or back patio. Practice hitting it against a wall and catching the rebound. I'd really like to see if we can get better at catching and receiving passes.
I know I will be attending some Stick and Pucks as well as drop-ins to work on this myself!
Don't forget next practice is Saturday night at 9:45pm.
I need everyone to let me know if they will be attending the first game. I'd like to try and have lines made for practice so we can all start to get to know our new line mates!
