Coach Mo's Corner

BLACKHAWKS,

First off, good practice last Saturday. Everyone skated well and it appears that everyone has some control over their own feet. Remember, knees bent, butt down, head and chest up and hands away from your body. I believe we are fortunate to have another practice this week instead of a game. Before long you will be sitting on the bench gasping for air wondering what the heck just happened and why is the coach yelling at me.

Here are a few items that you will be thinking to yourself during a game and a few of them you will say out loud between gasps for oxygen.

Is there less oxygen on the bench?
Do we have those paddle thingys on the bench in case my heart stops.
I was lying perfectly flat on my back on the ice, not my fault they scored, the centerman was out of position.
Why doesn’t our D see me wide open standing on their blue line?
How come the right winger doesn’t backcheck? That lazy SOB.
These refs blow, they need to learn how the game is played.
Crap, they have the puck and they are going really fast the other way. There is no way I catch them. That’s ok, our Dmen are good and they will stop him, I don’t need to get back.
Our goalie is a freakin stud.
Two orange cones in front of the net would stop more pucks than our goalie.
After falling: Did you see the size of that rut in the ice? My right skate caught it and down I went.
After fanning on a shot: I hate this stick, it’s too short and slick. Is it broken? There is something not right about this stick.
Why doesn’t he pass?
Why doesn’t he shoot?
This is going to hurt like a mother ____ tomorrow.
What am I doing out here?
Coach is an idiot, he thinks that he knows the game. My 7 year old knows more about this game.

Anyway, I got a little carried away there. I’d like to work on the basics on Friday again. Break out, maybe a little offense. We can go over face offs and probably the Penalty kill and power play. If there are any questions please let me know. I know that there are some first time players so if you are shy about asking in front of everyone, send me an email or call. We are not running any systems, I just want everyone to know basic positions and the fundamentals of the game. I can also go over the basic shots so everyone knows the mechanics.
